At the start of our writing workshop, we will explore the evolution of writing from its origins to the present day. We will then visit the abbey’s impressive library, where numerous medieval manuscripts are on display, bringing the history of the written word to life.
In the second part of the workshop, students will have the opportunity to learn the art of writing with pen and ink. Before the invention of the printing press, books were made by hand and often adorned with precious miniatures and ornaments. Abbeys such as Novacella had special writing workshops.
Participants will take on the role of medieval scribes through small calligraphy exercises.
